HOW TO TEST A CAKE TO SEE IF IT IS DONE

a. When baking a cake use the minimum amount of time that the recipe suggests.

b. After removing the cake out of the oven touch the center of the cake with your finger and if the cake is done it will spring back.

c. Try a thin piece of uncooked spaghetti for testing angel food cake and other deep cakes.

d. How to tell if a cake is done...look inside of the pan and you will see the cake has shrunk a little from the sides.

e. My favorite test is to insert a wooden toothpick in the center and if it comes out dry then your cake is done. Check out my other page filled with valuable tips for baking cakes, cookies, breads and muffins.

When a cake recipe doesn't turn out as planned and it is undercooked....don't despair....just take the cake and layer with fresh fruit and whipped cream.

When frosting a crumbly cake and the icing is lumpy from the cake crumbs, set the cake in the freezer until it is firm and then ice your cake.
